27. US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper joins CAES Board of Directors

ARLINGTON, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE). 27th US Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. Esper has joined the Company’s Board of Directors.

dr Esper served as Secretary of Defense from July 2019 to November 2020 and Secretary of the Army from 2017 to 2019. dr Esper will champion the diverse portfolio of mission-critical CAES solutions for air, sea, space and land platforms. and will also serve as a key advisor to Advent International.

Following its acquisition by Advent International (“Advent”), one of the largest and most experienced private equity firms, in January 2020, CAES now operates as a standalone company with an increased focus on customers, products and programs. This new structure has enabled the CAES board and management team to implement a strategy to achieve improved operational performance and program execution across the organization. Since Advent’s investment, the company has experienced strong growth and has been involved in many successful projects and new programs, including support for the MARS rover mission, selection to manufacture new 5G millimeter wave converters, major achievements in classified space programs and state-of-the-art EW work, among other things. In addition, the CAES Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors have been significantly strengthened with the appointment of a number of industry leaders, highlighted by the appointment of Dr. Esper is further strengthened.

dr Mark T. Esper was 27thth Secretary of Defense in July 2019 when he was confirmed 90-8 by the US Senate. As Secretary of Defense, Esper was responsible for ensuring United States national security, protecting the American people at home and abroad, and advancing the nation’s interests worldwide. In that capacity, he led one of the largest and most complex organizations in the world, employing nearly three million military and defense civilians and an annual budget of $740 billion. Esper’s responsibilities ranged from organizing, staffing, training and equipping the joint forces to researching and developing future weapons, concepts and equipment. and from defense trade, diplomacy, and cybersecurity to healthcare, housing, and schools.

Before becoming Secretary of Defense, Dr. Espers as 23approx Secretary of the Army, where he was responsible for over 1.5 million active duty, guard, reserve and civilian Army personnel, a $180 billion annual budget and all aspects of leading the world’s most capable ground combat force.

dr Esper graduated from West Point with honors in 1986. During 10 years of active duty as an infantry officer, he served in the Gulf War and Europe before retiring in 2007. Senate Governmental Affairs Committee and House Armed Services Committee. In 2002, he became Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Negotiated Policy and later served as National Security Adviser to the Senate Majority Leader in 2004.

dr Esper was the COO and EVP of Defense and International Affairs for the Aerospace Industries Association from 2006. From 2008 to 2010, he was simultaneously EVP for the US Chamber of Commerce‘s Global Intellectual Property Center and Vice President for Europe and Eurasia Affairs. From 2010 to 2017 he was Vice President for Government Relations at Raytheon Company.

Esper holds a BS from the US Military Academy, an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy from George Washington University. He is a two-time recipient of the DOD Medal for Distinguished Public Service and has received numerous awards during his military career, including the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

dr Esper is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is also the first John S. McCain Distinguished Fellow at the McCain Institute, Distinguished Chair of the Modern War Institute at West Point, a board member of the Atlantic Council, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
