Warren County’s Betty Crump founded Betty’s Unique Accessories, a vending machine store selling pet supplies.
The Warren County High School graduate now resides in Washington, DC, but some of her family members continue to live in the area, including her mother, Brenda Crump Davis of Warrenton.
Crump holds a degree in Journalism / Mass Communication from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro and works in the healthcare sector.
As an entrepreneur, she initially thought about developing tailor-made vending machines with options such as baby care items, snacks or beauty products. Then she thought of the pets she had seen with her humans in malls and outlets, and she wanted to make pet supplies more accessible to dog and cat parents.
With a lifelong love of animals, Crump wanted to offer something special for people and their pets, like their Yorkie.
“They are like people,†she says. “Why don’t you treat her like one of us?”
Betty’s unique accessories are currently available at the Tanger Outlets in Charleston, SC, but Crump is looking to expand to more locations.
Their pet supply vending machines have 27 items, including dog collars, wormer, bandanas, sunglasses, shampoo and nail clippers, cat balls, and flies, among others.
Crump said their machines come with both a credit card reader and an ATM. They work like any other vending machine: select an item number and it will be lowered for collection.
Crump hopes to expand its vending machine locations to North Carolina in the future. She is also working on a website and Facebook page with ordering information so that her pet supplies can be served to more people – including residents of Warren County.
Crump continues to keep in touch with Warren County High School classmates and other local families and friends.
She visited Warren County for the Labor Day Holidays and returned home when she could to see family and friends in Warrenton, Littleton, and Greensboro.
At this point, Crump continues her efforts to build her customer base as she hopes that a growing number of people will find Betty’s Unique Accessories the ideal resource for finding the products their four-legged friends need.
