A supply card system in the city until the end of July | Delhi News Delhi
New Delhi: Preparations for the implementation of the One Nation, One Ration Card (ONORC) program in the state capital before the end of July are in full swing.
The implementation will be a boon to thousands of migrant workers who are deprived of the free or subsidized ration when they immigrate to Delhi in search of work. Currently, all of these migrant workers cannot use the ration cards they brought to the capital from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states. They were worst hit during the coronavirus pandemic.
Almost all fair price shops have successfully carried out test runs of e-PoS (electronic point of sale) machines and ensured their functionality. In Delhi’s more than 2,000 fair-price shops, the ePoS machines were not in use (except in the Seemapuri district, where a test run was carried out), as the government stopped using the ePoS machines in April 2018 after it had irregularities the distribution had ascertained.
During the second week of July, senior officials from the food department held two meetings to review preparations regarding the e-PoS machine. During the meeting it was pointed out that at least 50 test transactions must be carried out on ePoS machines by all fair price shops. However, the IT department of the grocery department reported that 117 fair price shops had not even tested e-PoS devices for a single transaction, despite the fact that a week had passed.
All e-PoS devices were tested back in January of this year, when the IT department had trained all Fair Price shop dealers online about e-PoS operation. All fair price shops have undergone the e-PoS test according to strict regulations.
An official who refused to be named said the government will likely order the implementation of the ONORC program in the state capital soon.
The Supreme Court ruled on 29. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected people from different walks of life but the hardest hit are migrant workers who have lost their livelihoods due to lockdowns and economic restrictions.
The e-PoS machines are a must for the implementation of the ONORC scheme. E-PoS machines can track beneficiaries and verify double rationing. This is not possible with manual distribution, said Shailendra Kumar, president of the Public Distribution System Welfare Association.
