June 6, 2022 — Cheese sold in supermarkets in nine states is being recalled over possible Listeria contamination.
Fareway, Price Chopper and Super Saver are among the stores receiving the cheese made by Paris Brothers of Kansas City, Missouri, according to a company statement published on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.
The recalled cheeses are Cottonwood River Cheddar, D’amir Brie Double Crème French Brie, Milton Prairie Breeze White Cheddar Style, Milton Tomato Garlic Cheddar, Paris Brothers Mild Cheddar, Paris Brothers Colby Jack, Paris Brothers Pepper Jack, and Cervasi Pecorino Romano, the company said. Some stores may have relabeled the products.
The cheeses were shipped to wholesalers for distribution to stores in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska, South Dakota, a store in Mississippi and a store in Florida, the company statement said.
The cheeses were manufactured May 4-6, 2022 and the shipping boxes are lot numbered 05042022, 05052022, or 05062022. For a complete list of more than 90 retail stores that have received the cheese, visit the FDA website.
The recall was triggered by a routine sampling by the FDA. No diseases were reported. Listeria bacteria that cause food poisoning can live in soil, water, soil, dust, animal feces, and other substances.
Customers can return cheese to where they bought it for a refund.
