Enugu PoS operators condemn attacks by gunmen

Point of sale (POS) operators have denounced the incessant attacks by gunmen in various parts of Enugu.

Some of them who spoke to LEADERSHIP said the gunmen did not attack them and stole their money and also took their PoS devices.

A Maryland Axis of Enugu operative, who identified himself as Chibuike Amechi, said the unidentified gunmen recently attacked him and took more than N300,000 from him.

“I went to the bank to withdraw a huge sum of money, not knowing that some unidentified sienna-wearing gunmen were watching me. Shortly after I opened my shop, I saw three young men approaching my shop.

“Having suspected they might be criminals, I tried to lock my shop but they quickly detained me, took out a gun and collected over N300,000 from me.

“I ran after them and when they saw me driving near them they opened fire on me and dragged me out of my car and took my car away from me. I haven’t seen my car yet. I’ve just returned to work after a few days in the hospital.’.

Another employee at Independence Layout, Enugu, Miss Chineye Ugwu, said she was recently attacked by unknown gunmen during the day.

“Some armed men recently attacked me. The attack happened when people were still moving during the day. They collected my POS machine and a lot of money,” she said.

They called on the security authorities to come to their rescue, saying they lost huge sums of money to these robbers.

It was also noted that there was heavy gunfire last Saturday from unidentified gunmen who were on the brink of robbing PoS operators on Ogui Road.
