ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has awarded HBL an order to use Point of Sales (POS) terminals to accept credit and debit cards in NADRA centers across the country.
These POS terminals are used in all NADRA centers in accordance with the instructions and recommendations of the Government of Pakistan (GoP) and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
An agreement was reached between NADRA chairman Tariq Malik and
HBL President and CEO Muhammad Aurangzeb. Senior officials of the two
Organizations were also there.
The chairman of NADRA said on the occasion that the installation of POS terminals would allow payment by debit and credit cards. NADRA centers across the country have massive public footfall every day, and the digitization of payment systems would allow citizens multiple payment options and provide them with an easy and secure payment method as they move towards a digital Pakistan, he said.
He also stated that the introduction of POS terminals provides the accounting efficiency and accuracy. He said the Nadra centers will now accept more currencies as applicants are often foreign Pakistanis with foreign bank accounts and payment cards.
Through this partnership, HBL will use its POS terminals in all NADRA centers
nationwide. This initiative is critical to improving Pakistan’s digital infrastructure,
so that HBL can do its part to support NADRA in digitizing its identification systems
on the whole. It will enable applicants to NADRA to have multiple payment options by being offered
they simple and convenient operation.
The President and CEO of HBL said on the occasion: “We are very pleased to have received this mandate. HBL and NADRA have a longstanding relationship that spans many years. As the main bank of the Pakistani government, HBL has implemented many strategic programs in cooperation with NADRA to bring convenience and ease to the public. This partnership supports HBL’s strategic priority of promoting digitization across the country. “
NADRA remains a key player for HBL as it provides both Verisys and biometric verification systems that allow banks and other financial institutions to verify their customers’ credentials at the time of account opening and transactions. HBL continues to be the main account / collection bank for NADRA registration centers, including more than 600 operating accounts opened in various branches of the bank.
