Over 4 years in jail for McHenry man who stole a family member’s car in order to pawn stolen items

A McHenry man plead guilty of stealing the car of a family member that he used to drive and sell stolen items was sentenced to more than four years in prison.

Connor Freise, 27, at Block 4900 on Bode Avenue in McHenry, has been charged with unauthorized possession of a stolen automobile, unlawful possession of a converted automobile, burglary, possession of someone else’s credit or debit card, and theft.

A criminal complaint alleged that Freise stole a tool box, a leaf blower and a pressure washer from a family member’s home earlier this year.

Freise then stole the female family member’s credit card and her car, the ad said.

Prosecutors said he drove the stolen car to Chicago to mortgage the stolen items and left the car in Chicago.

Freise reached a negotiating arrangement with the McHenry County Attorney’s Office on Thursday.

He pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 crime, in exchange for all of his other charges being dropped.

McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt approved the plea deal and sentenced Freise to four years and six months in the Illinois Department of Justice.

The case was investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and followed up by Brian Miller of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
