Silver Cross Hospital plans medical center in Orland Ridge subdivision – Chicago Tribune
According to the hospital and Mayor Keith Pekau, Silver Cross Hospital plans to build an approximately 65,000 square foot facility in Orland Park that would provide outpatient services.
The building would stand in Orland Ridge, a subdivision of nearly 300 townhouses and adjoining mansions underway at the northeast corner of La Grange Road and 171st Street, according to Pekau.
A hospital spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday that Silver Cross intends to construct a building that would provide outpatient treatment and offices for doctors in a variety of specialties, but that the hospital is not giving further details at this time, such as when construction will begin could begin.
Pekau mentioned the plan at Monday’s village board meeting, but said Silver Cross hasn’t submitted a proposal yet. Pekau could not be reached Tuesday for further comment on the plans.
In addition to its main hospital in New Lenox, Silver Cross operates medical centers in Homer Glen, Mokena and New Lenox.
Separately, Orland Park intends to annex approximately 6 acres at the northwest corner of 179th Street and Wolf Road where there are plans to build an Aldi grocery store.
Where Silver Cross plans to build, in Orland Ridge, construction is progressing on 190 townhouses and 104 attached villas on lots that were planned to be a hospital site a few years ago, but not by Silver Cross.
The nearly 150-acre site is slated to include commercial development, potentially including a restaurant and hotel, clearing that space for land off La Grange just north of 171st Street.
Bordered by Orland Hills to the east and Tinley Park to the south, the property was annexed to Orland Park in 1999.
In the mid-2000s, state regulators rejected a proposal by the parent company of what was then St. Francis Hospital and Health Center, later MetroSouth Medical Center, to spend nearly $200 million to build a 130-bed hospital on the site. MetroSouth is now closed.
The Silver Cross project would be just north of where Loyola Medicine is investing more than $69 million in a 72,000-square-foot outpatient center in Tinley Park on the southeast corner of La Grange and 179th Street.

Expected to open sometime next year, the two-story building directly west of the Moraine Valley Community College satellite campus in Tinley Park will provide primary care and specialty care in areas such as orthopedic surgery, oncology, cardiology, pulmonary medicine and urology.
A public hearing on the proposed annexation of the land on which Aldi plans to build in Orland Park was held Monday, with no comment from trustees or the public.
Formal approval of the addition, as well as approval of the building plans, would come at later meetings.
Aldi is proposing a 20,500-square-foot store on the site and it would be the second location in Orland Park for the chain, which has a store on the southeast corner of La Grange and 131st Street.
The new store would be near a shopping center that includes a Juwel grocery store and an Osco pharmacy.
Aldi also has stores in Orland Hills and Tinley Park.
