SOS, a women-founded developer and operator of interactive vending machines that bring quality products and digital content to public spaces, including Fenway Park, FLA Live Arena, Prudential Center and Boston Children’s Hospital, has raised $ 3.4 million in grants. The most recent round was led by early stage investor For Later LLC, in which the Khan family, owners of Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham FC, participated; Jerod Mayo, a New England Patriots coach and former player; Ju Rhyu, founder and CEO of Hero Cosmetics; as well as leading executives and founders in real estate, retail, advertising, marketing, sports and entertainment.
Founders and co-CEOs Susanna Twarog and Robina Verbeek met as colleagues at a Fortune 100 company and discovered the alarming shortage of quality health and wellness products in the office and most public spaces. To solve this problem, they invented the SOS machine in 2017 – a curvy, elegant IoT-enabled device that delivers individually packaged products for on the go. The device is equipped with a video touchscreen that delivers targeted content and enables a completely cardless, contactless shopping experience. The company holds five design patents in the US, Canada, Europe and China.
âOur machines turn a moment of panic into a moment of empowerment and choice,â says Verbeek. âWe believe that convenient access must be paired with exceptional products and an upscale retail experience. âQuick and easyâ shouldn’t mean âcheap and shabbyâ, especially when it comes to women’s health. Everyone deserves better. “
SOS started in Boston, where its smart vending machines are located in high-traffic locations across the city. The company’s next installation will bring an additional 35 SOS machines to the Florida Panthers FLA Live Arena in Sunrise and five machines to the Panthers IceDen in Coral Springs. In the coming months, SOS will expand into new cities and locations across the United States, including New York, Florida, California and beyond.
“We are proud to partner with SOS to meet the wellbeing and personal needs of our employees, fans and the South Florida community,” said Shawn Thornton, Panthers chief commercial officer. “We hope that the intelligent SOS machines give customers the peace of mind that they can easily access these wellness products while enjoying concerts, games or events in the FLA Live Arena.”
Since its initial installation in January 2020, SOS has been one of 10 companies selected for the Techstars Boston Accelerator, selected as the Top 20 Emerging Brand in Retail by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), and has joined the Female Founder Collective (FFC.) are), a non-profit organization that supports forward-thinking women in business.
